Through The Eyes Of A Deeply Feeling Brown Girl is a mini book of musings about the mundanest of things in life. It compiles several of my paintings and sketches, along with actual images of the inspiration, and my deeply feeling musings about them.
If you're someone who's always been called "too sensitive" or a "cry baby" or "emotional", I understand you. Maybe you will understand me too, through this book.
Because some people grow up thinking they feel too deeply for their own good. They wonder how to shut down this emotional side of them and sail through life unfazed. I was one of them too. It’s a “was” because at some point I realized that life is too fleeting and random to be nonchalant.
As someone who loves to paint, write, and talk, I have always been naturally very expressive about my thoughts, emotions, and feelings. Anything that has made me feel something, exists in the form of a painting and a writing at some part of my house. This book weaves together some of those pieces I could find. Everything you’re about to see and read was either posted on Instagram when The Amsu House was just a fledgling art account, or printed in different editions of my print club, Meteor.
All the paintings and sketches you find in this book were hand painted or hand drawn by me between the ages of 6 and 25 (you might find the date of the artworks written beneath my signature on them). The writings you find in this book were written entirely by me (except the quote from Good Will Hunting, of course); they were either written entirely fresh at the time, or rewritten using my writings from other contexts, such as college term papers, cover letters, and diary entries.
The reason I chose to put them all together into a book is two fold. One, propaganda - propaganda to feel deeply and live deliberately with your eyes and heart wide open. And two, a quid pro quo - a quid pro quo where I offer creativity to you and you double it and pass it on.
